Open Component Model is a new specification that makes it easy to describe an application through its components using YAML format ( I.e.: backend, frontend, database, etc ). The specification also allows for signing, verification and transfer to other repositories. At the end of this pipeline, we get a set of manifests that describe the application. This is where Flux comes in. Using Flux together with OCM we can provide a verifiable, repeatable and secure deployment for an application into any cluster Flux has access to. Our research led us to understand that deploying applications and creating these pipelines is done via in-house solutions that consist of clobbered-together scripts and pipelines with intermitted CI phases that are hardly portable. Our solution using Flux and OCM, provides a set of controllers that can create deployments, sign them, and verify integrity at all steps, increasing trust of the application that is being deployed. Flux will do the heavy lifting and will take over the governance of the manifests. The demo will show how we utilize OCM’s transfer capabilities, signing and verification, localization and configuration of all application components.
